Care for Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of irregular heartbeat. Disorganized electrical activity in the top chambers of the heart causes a rapid and disorganized heartbeat. This causes you to experience shortness of breath, palpitations, fatigue, weakness and lightheadedness. However, some people may experience no symptoms at all.
Diagnosis
We offer several tests to diagnose atrial fibrillation. Our experienced, knowledgeable and caring staff uses state-of-the-art technology and equipment for all of these tests:
- Cardiac Catheterization
- Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Echocardiogram (Echo)
- Stress Echocardiogram (Echo)
- Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG)
- Exercise Stress Test
- Nuclear Exercise Stress Test
- Holter Monitor
- Electrophysiologic Study
- Insertable Loop Recorder (ILR)
- Microvolt T-Wave Alternans Test
Treatment
Medication often can be used to control atrial fibrillation. However, if diagnostic tests determine you need a procedure to correct your problem, you'll get the care you need at Lehigh Valley Health Network.
